Letting Go of Suffering
This was the first section of the original curriculum, before the money mindset and before the three problems. I put it first for a reason: everything after it is technique, and technique does not work on a mind that is busy suffering. So we start by putting the suffering down.
The mind that sees a problem cannot see a solution to it
When you look at your business and see a problem, the seeing itself is the obstacle. Not because the problem is imaginary; it may be real. But the mind that is occupied with "this is wrong" is fully occupied. It has no room left in it for "here is what works." They are two different states, and you cannot be in both at once.
You have felt this. You sit down to fix your offer and instead you spend an hour listing everything wrong with it. You end the hour more certain that it is broken and no closer to a fix. That is not laziness. That is the problem-seeing mind doing exactly what it does.
The move is not to solve the problem harder. The move is to notice which mind you are in, and let go of the one that only sees problems. Solutions show up on their own once there is room.
You are here because of cause and environment, result and reward
Where you are right now is not an accident and it is not a verdict. It is a result. Every result comes from a cause meeting an environment. You did certain things (cause) in certain conditions (environment), and what you have now is the result, along with whatever reward or lack of reward came with it.
This is good news, even when the result is bad. It means the result is not who you are. It is what happened when those causes met those conditions. Change the cause, or change the environment, and you get a different result. That is the whole engine of this program: we make the causes conscious.
Karma
Karma is the name for how cause and result carry forward. What you did before shapes what you find yourself doing now, and what you do now shapes what you will find yourself doing next. It is not punishment; it is momentum.
Given life vs. creating life
Most of life is given. You did not choose your parents, your first language, the habits you had before you noticed you had habits. Given life is the part of your life that runs on old karma. It is not bad, but it is not yours in the sense that matters here.
Creating life is the other part: the moments when you act from a decision instead of a pattern. A business is one of the few places adults get to create life on purpose. That is why it is worth doing, and it is also why it is uncomfortable. Every time you create instead of repeat, the given life pushes back.
Karmic problem vs. non-karmic problem
Some problems are just problems. Your website is down; you fix the website. Those are non-karmic. You solve them once and they stay solved.
A karmic problem is one you have solved before and it came back. You made the offer and then stopped talking about it, again. You raised your price and then discounted it, again. You planned the launch and then got busy the week of, again. When the same problem keeps arriving through different doors, the problem is not the door. It is a pattern, and it needs to be worked on as a pattern, not as a task.
Most of what we do in the Room is telling these two apart. Non-karmic problems get a fix. Karmic problems get practice.
Please do not feel behind
In my notes this line is in capital letters, so I will say it plainly here: please do not feel behind.
Behind whom? Behind the version of you that started earlier, that did not have the given life you had, that did not make the mistakes that taught you what you now know? That person does not exist. There is no line, and there is no one ahead of you on it. There is a cause, an environment, a result, and the next cause you choose. That is all anyone has.
Feeling behind is the problem-seeing mind pointed at your own life. It will not get you moving; it will keep you looking. Put it down, and let's begin from where you actually are.
